My Current Motorcycle Travel Gear

As a minimalist traveler, I always try to find ways to improve that way I pack for travel. It truly is a challenge to find the perfect motorcycle gear travel setup that can be used in all settings. The next best thing is to not plan for all the possible situations, but for the majority of what you will most likely encounter in that trip. This compilation is not limited to motorcycle clothing.

Here's my list:

1. A comfortable dual-sport helmet. I like using a dual-sport helmet because the beak conveniently serves as a sun shade. I personally use the Klim Krios Pro, because it is lighter than my other helmet which is the Arai XD4. I also like that the Krios Pro has transitions visor so I do not have to actually switch visors when the sun sets.

2. A bluetooth communication system. I currently own the Cardo Packtalk Slim, but will someday upgrade it to the PackTalk Edge, which is supposedly worlds better than the Packtalk Slim. It recently came out in 2022. My current one is nice enough already as it is easy to use and easy to switch from one helmet to another. Also, the app makes creating a group ride connection super easy.

3. If I am mostly going to be in a colder-weather place, then I opt for the Klim Artemis adventure jacket and pants. If I am mostly going to be in a hot weather place, then I will opt for the Revit Tornado jacket and pants. I will say the the Klim adventure gear is quite stiff because of the material and it's durability. The Revit is more soft and comfortable. In case you didn't know about it. I've made video reviews on these on my YouTube Channel under the Product Reviews Playlist.

4. My favorite boots, the Forma Adventure boots. They're the right width for people with wide feet. They're the right height and it's waterproof. They are the most comfortable motorcycle boots I have ever tried.

5. Gloves: I bring a summer and a winter pair, I bring the winter gloves even to hot weather places in case it rains, since it's waterproof. My summer gloves are currently the Alpinestars SMX-2 Air Carbon V2. I really like how they are well ventilated. and a great price. The winter gloves are the Boulder goretex. Check out my video reviews here.

6. I always bring a packable puff jacket, I use this under my motorcycle jacket when it is too cold. As well as a packable rain jacket and pants. If I am wearing my mesh gear, I can wear these under that gear so I can be waterproof. I also have Frog Toggs that I can actually just put over my moto gear when it rains. But they don't pack as small, so I don't bring them on international travels when I cannot bring my own bike. I used them when I moto travel locally and can pack my own bike. Because they are not as small, they go over my moto gear easily, perfect for unexpected rain while wearing mesh gear!

7. I bring a couple of gaiters that acts as a scarf/headband/hairtie/neck buff. Living in a microclimate area and traveling frequently has taught me the valuable lesson of learning not just how to layer clothes, but to layer with very packable clothes. I try to use merino wool material because it doesn't get stinky as fast as other types of material, so perfect for travel.

8. My phone holder set up that I can use in any bike. I use my phone to navigate as I do not currently own a navigation system. After trying multiple phone holders, I just keep coming back to the RAM mount X-grip. It has been the best option for me. However, I definitely recommend using the rubber security bands to keep your phone on the holder especially on bumpy roads. I personally use this removable claw instead of the U-bolt to mount my phone holder onto the bike, for a quick-release feature, which is perfect when traveling.

9. I bring at least one motorcycle cargo net and a pair of Rok Straps so that I can strap things down on a rental motorcycle. I cannot count on renting a bike with cases, as most of the time, I end up in a province that only has dual-sport bikes for rent.

10. Lastly, compression socks! Perfect for on the airplane and off the airplane. On long road trips on and off the bike. This keeps your legs from hurting. They're great motorcycle boot socks! These are the ones I use below. They're called Sockwell and I buy the FIRM version which has higher compression. The lighter compression doesn't work for me particularly, but it may for you. The best part is they are merino wool.

The men's and women's version

I switched my travel gear to mostly merino wool because they feel better on my skin than the typical quick dry material that I used prior. They also do not hold smell like the typical quick-dry clothing. They also look more normal and not more "gym clothing".
